There is a long list of topics we could address in the discussion of beliefs. For a complete resource, please feel free to check out the resources re: Reformed Beliefs on our Denominational website.
To help focus this discussion, at Faith Community we have found it helpful to frame this conversation in terms of "essentials" of the faith. While we are always willing to journey together in discussion considering countless questions related to the mystery of God - At Faith Community Church there are key "essentials" that are a part of the foundation of our faith and practice.
Provided below are statements of our key "essentials" and beliefs.
- Salvation by Grace through Faith - Faith Community Church is a Christian church that believes in salvation by grace through faith in the person of Jesus Christ.
- Holy Scripture - The Holy Bible is the inspired Word of God, inerrant and infallible in all that it intends to teach, and the final authority for faith and practice.
- Jesus Christ - Jesus Christ, the Son of God and the Savior of those who have faith in him.
- Creeds and Confessions - We celebrate the teachings of the historic Christian faith as confessed in the Apostles Creed. We value the teaching of the Heidelberg Catechism, a sixteenth-century evangelical Protestant Reformation statement of faith of the interpretation and practice of our journey of faith.
Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church* (*meaning the universal Christian church--all believers in Jesus Christ), the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
